We’re halfway through January and as expected we’ve all been bombarded with a million messages around ‘New Year, New You’ diets and promises of fast post-Christmas weight loss.

While exercise and nutrition is key to a healthy and sustainable life, we want to encourage you to be mindful of your overall health this January. Instead, follow Miranda’s top 3 health tips for 2018 and give your body some extra care the whole year round – not just in January!

Miranda Kerr's Top 3 Healthy Tips For The New Year

A COMBINATION OF MEDITATION AND YOGA FOR WELLNESS

You don’t need to buy an expensive gym membership, follow a restrictive diet or punishing regime to kick start a healthier lifestyle change in 2018.

Instead, follow Miranda’s combination of medication and yoga for wellness – this microchange will have a more powerful effect on your overall health (mind and body) and is easier to follow long term.

HERE'S MIRANDA'S ADVICE:

  • If you can, practice at least once a day, every day, whether that’s early in the morning before breakfast, or after a long day.
  • Combine different yoga practices such as Kundalini which focuses on the mind and hatha yoga that encompasses the more physical movements.
  • Take time for yourself, meditation is great for the mind and self-esteem!
  • When there’s so much going on in life, meditation keeps it simple.

BALANCED EATING, NOT DIETING

Miranda Kerr's Healthy Eating

Miranda believes the key to a happy, healthy and glowing body is balanced eating, not restrictive dieting. If you make one resolution around food this year, it must be to eat more fruit and vegetables.

Fruit and vegetables are bursting with vitamins and minerals, full of essential dietary fiber and other amazing health-promoting compounds called phytochemicals (think antioxidants, hormones, anti-bacterial effects) that have disease preventative properties. Try eating more plant-based foods and natural grains like rye bread topped with sliced avocado (full of omega 3 and vitamin A) for lunch and berries packed with antioxidants and low in sugar for an easy afternoon snack.

Living a healthy lifestyle isn’t always easy, but Miranda swears by the 80:20 approach (80% healthy, 20% treats). When it comes to snacking or treats, try to make it or bake it yourself so you control how much refined sugar or fat is added. Make simple and sensible food swaps, like adding cacao power instead of milk chocolate to your cookies – reducing the fat, calories per portion, while adding antioxidants. Simple.

TEA HAS MANY HEALTH BENEFITS

To kick start your metabolism, we recommend starting your day with a mug of green tea. It also has antioxidants to promote cognitive performance for preventing mid-afternoon slumps. Before bedtime, enjoy the relaxing properties of Camomile (one of Miranda’s favorites) to help you feel calm and get a good night’s sleep. The antibacterial effects can help to prevent illness and infection – a great way to beat colds this winter!

Miranda takes her tea either as it is or with goat’s milk and a teaspoon of Manuka honey. Instead of regular milk, Miranda uses goats milk, “It’s lower in cholesterol, it has high amounts of vitamin A, it’s a great source of calcium and I really enjoy the flavor.” She’s also a big fan of using Manuka honey as a natural sweetener, “I really like to use Manuka honey – it’s antibacterial and has so many healing benefits.” Here’s a few benefits of Manuka honey:

  • Digestion – banishes bloating and improves overall gut health
  • Energy – a real boost for when you’re feeling tired
  • Healing – keeps you fighting fit
  • Beauty – a natural anti-acne and skin infection hero
